Addy books

Some people have posted that they don't think the Addy books are very accurate. I personally loved the books, but I am not an expert on the Civil War. Could someone set me straight by explaining specifically what you disliked about the Addy books.

I love Addy's books!
I think the thing people don't like is that she has more outfits and stuff than a poor black family would really have back then. But that's because she's a doll too.
Someone was saying that if she was historically accurate the only outfits she would have would be her Meet dress and nightgown. But she would be no fun if those were her only outfits. In fact, some people even think that Harriet will be Addy's friend because Sarah would only have one or two dresses.
The only time this has bugged me is Addy's surprise. It just seems like she gets all this stuff out of nowhere. But other than that, suspend your disbelief people.
And if you think there a little glossy, there childrens books people.

Hmmm . . . we do know that many people risked their lives to help slaves escape, would it really be much of a leap to believe that someone might give a child a secondhand dress? Weren't there real groups like the one that helped Addy and her mother?

I agree that a real Addy wouldn't have had as many dresses as the doll has, but like you said, she is a doll. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I had also thought that AG just wanted to give Addy some good things after all she had been through. I kind of feel that way about Addy myself. Funny thing is that my Addy doll has way more things than my other dolls.
I am currently looking for a friend for Addy. Won't it be nice that Addy has enough clothes to share? [img]graemlins/girl_hug.gif[/img]
I just wish AG would come out with another dark skinned doll with a different face than Addy's. Anyone have an opinion of which doll might make a good post Civil War friend for Addy? If I can't figure this out, I may just move Addy out west and she can become a neighbor to Kirsten. [img]graemlins/idea.gif[/img] [img]smile.gif[/img]

It's not the meet dress that people talk about, it's her other ones. There was a big debate about her Christmas dress, let me see if I can find it...
